Barbara grew up in Oklahoma and began riding at the
age of five at a hunter/jumper stable. Barbara rode
competitively from the age of eight and because she
loved it so much, she attended Stephens College where
she could continue riding competitively as she worked
toward her degree in journalism. After college, Barbara
had a career as a television director in Miami. She
decided to be a full-time mom after the birth of her
first child and dedicated herself to her kids and their
interests. Among other things, Barbara became a full-time
soccer and softball coach. This experience game her
terrific insights into teaching youngsters with the
proper balance of positive reinforcement and competitiveness.

On my 2nd birthday, I rode my moms’ AQHA Champion
Trail Horse, “Smarty”, in my first Lead
Line class. There began a lifelong love of horses. I
grew up in an environment much like that at Elvenstar.
My horse trainer parents managed and trained at various
locations throughout California. My sister and I competed
as junior riders in the hunter, jumper and equitation
divisions. I had the best childhood any kid could ever
have. When I was just out of high school, my dad sold
five international show jumpers to the Japanese Olympic
team. This gave me the opportunity to travel to Japan
with the horses, and spend two months there riding and
competing. I worked in the industry until my late twenties
when horses took a backseat to marriage and children.
In 2005, I was thrilled to return to the horse industry
professionally to ride and instruct at a prominent show
barn in Thousand Oaks. I have most recently competed
in the jumper division.
I am very pleased to join the staff of fine trainers
at Elvenstar. I’m excited to get to know the students
and their families and I look forward to contributing
to the many terrific programs that Elvenstar offers.
I view my future here as an opportunity to help enrich
the lives of others through the love of horses.
