Andrea Young (email)
Since her first pony ride at the age of four, Andrea knew that this was what she wanted to do. At the age of nine she got her first job at the local riding stable to work off her lessons and has been in the horse business ever since. Grateful for the opportunity to learn not just about riding and horsemanship but how to teach from trainers who truly loved and were inspired by what they were doing.
As a teen Andrea showed successfully in the local circuit and was sought after to catch-ride and break horses. Coming to Elvenstar in 1984, she was instrumental in developing the riding academy with Jim Hagman. Staring out with only two school horses and a handful of students, Elvenstar Riding Academy has grown to become the top riding academy in California, producing hundreds of champion riders and successful horsemen. Although championships are wonderful and a testament to success, nothing makes Andrea happier than seeing a confident rider who loves their horse.

Barbara Burnett (email)
Barbara grew up in Oklahoma and began riding at the age of five at a hunter/jumper stable. Barbara rode competitively from the age of eight and because she loved it so much, she attended Stephens College where she could continue riding competitively as she worked toward her degree in journalism.
After college, Barbara had a career as a television director in Miami. She decided to be a full-time mom after the birth of her first child and dedicated herself to her kids and their interests. Among other things, Barbara became a full-time soccer and softball coach. This experience game her terrific insights into teaching youngsters with the proper balance of positive reinforcement and competitiveness.
